Many today, driven by their emotions, will abandon the mission due to their feelings. One way to say it is that we go round and round, and where we stop, only our emotions know. The rise of compromise is happening because people are becoming victims of their feelings. Proverbs 28:26.

Emotions reside within strongholds, which are mental patterns that keep you trapped by your feelings. This happens because people do not recognise the thoughts that lead to certain emotions in the first place, as noted in 2 Corinthians 10:4-5.

In the book of Corinthians, it says to take every thought captive. The word “thought” here comes from the Greek term noema, as noted by Rick Renner, which translates to “insinuation” and relates to emotion.

In other words, don’t take every feeling at face value. To be centred on our thoughts and feelings means we need the guiding principles of God’s Word to keep us on the straight and narrow, regardless of our emotions. Psalm 119:105, Matthew 7:13-14

It’s understandable that this can be quite difficult and overwhelming for someone who has experienced trauma. Therefore, we need to implement a process to address the mental overwhelm of hopelessness and despair. Psalm 34:18, Isaiah 61:1-3

The way through is the way up—it’s about looking up and then pulling down lofty thoughts with the truth. We must turn to the One who can assist us and take our thoughts captive, bringing every lofty thought into submission to His presence if we genuinely desire peace in our hearts and freedom. Psalm 121:1-2, 2 Corinthians 10:5, Isaiah 26:3

One of the primary keys to finding peace is understanding that the Lord is our safe haven, our ultimate security. His name is a refuge, and we can always turn to Him. It’s about learning to seek the right place rather than reacting based on our feelings if we genuinely wish to achieve success and freedom. Proverbs 18:10, Psalm 91:1-2, Philippians 4:6-7
